John Edgar Hoover served in the General intelligence Division from 1917 through 1972. He was named the director of the Division in 1924. The general intelegence division was later named, the Federal Bureau of Investigation(FBI). During the time he was in charge, he became the most powerful leader that the Bureau has ever had. He is the reason it is so orginized and such a powerful part of the government today.
Even though Hoover was such a good leader, he also had a bad side to him. He had so much power, that like most people he abused it. Also, just like a lot of other government leaders, he was involved in a sex scandal. But, he was so good at keeping secrets that people didn't find out until way after this all happened.
